Tragic Incident in Anambra: Three Siblings Found Dead in Parked Car

In a heart-wrenching incident, three young siblings were discovered lifeless inside their father’s parked Mercedes Benz in Nise community, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Initial reports suggested foul play; however, subsequent investigations indicate that the children died from suffocation after inadvertently locking themselves inside the vehicle.

The children, aged between two and six years, were reportedly playing inside the car when they accidentally engaged the central locking system, trapping themselves. With the windows rolled up and the car parked under the sun, the internal temperature would have risen rapidly, leading to a fatal lack of oxygen.

Chief Anthony Nwabuona, President General of Nise Community, provided insight into the tragedy: “We got a distress call from the head of our local vigilante group about the death of the children, and we rushed to the compound to see the children lifeless. It was also confirmed that they entered their father’s car and were playing inside the car. They pinned down the lock of the car but couldn’t open it.”

The Anambra State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the incident. The father of the deceased has been interviewed to gather more information. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated, “The command has received the report, and it is already under investigation. Meanwhile, the father of the victims has been interviewed, and we are working with the necessary information provided.”

This tragic event underscores the critical importance of child safety, especially concerning vehicles. Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that young children are never left unattended and to educate them about the dangers of playing in or around parked cars.
