Police Inspector Shot Dead As Security Forces Clash With Notorious Bandits, Recover Guns & Charms

According to Punch newspaper,a recent confrontation in Benue State’s Buruku Local Government Area resulted in significant casualties, including the loss of Inspector Terfa Anyiatse.

Members of the Operation Zenda Joint Task Force were conducting raids across Benue State when they encountered gunmen, leading to a fierce confrontation.

The encounter resulted in significant casualties, with 12 bandits killed and one police officer, Inspector Terfa Anyiatse, losing his life in Buruku Local Government Area.

The task force has been actively addressing security concerns in the state and recently arrested a notorious bandit along with several accomplices in the Adikpo area of Kwande Local Government Area.

A fierce gun battle broke out between police operatives and bandits in Buruku Local Government Area on March 19, 2025, around 2:00 a.m., when the operatives stumbled upon an ambush while heading to a criminal hideout at Agwabi, Tombo Ward.

The police successfully countered the ambush using superior firepower, ultimately overpowering and subduing the gang.

Following the intense exchange of gunfire, 12 bandits were killed, while others managed to escape.

The injured bandits were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead and subsequently moved to the hospital morgue.

The police seized several items from the bandits, including AK-47 rifles, ammunition, camouflage uniforms, and charms.

Tragically, Inspector Terfa Anyiatse sustained a fatal gunshot injury during the encounter. Despite receiving medical attention, he was pronounced dead by a doctor, and his body has been taken to the morgue.
