‘When I Was Governor, My Security Was Withdrawn 11:30pm While Amaechi Was Sleeping In Abuja’ -Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, actively worked with the federal government to make Rivers State ungovernable during his tenure as governor. He described a turbulent period in which he was assigned 12 Commissioners of Police within just three months, suggesting deliberate efforts to destabilize his administration.

He further alleged that his security was withdrawn at 11:30 p.m., a move he claimed was unprecedented for any sitting governor. Wike added that while he stayed back in Rivers to manage the crisis, Amaechi remained in Abuja, detached from the turmoil unfolding in the state.

He said in an interview with TVC, ” I had a minister [Rotimi Amaechi] working with the federal government to make my state (Rivers) ungovernable. I had 12 Commissioners of Police in 3 months. Three months! Now, I had to sit back: What do I do to survive this? They withdrew my security—11:30pm at night. No governor had suffered what I suffered. I don’t have enemies at the federal level, so nobody saw me in Abuja. I never slept in Abuja. Even if I came, I returned to Rivers the same day.”
