Why Bola Tinubu Almost Lost 2023 elections woefully– Nyesom Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will remain in power until 2031, despite the turbulent circumstances that nearly cost him the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike claimed that Tinubu narrowly escaped defeat in 2023 due to policies implemented by the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) government, particularly the naira redesign and fuel crisis.

According to Daily Post, he argued that those moves appeared calculated to sabotage Tinubu’s chances.

“Whether APC liked it or not, it was very turbulent for Tinubu to have scaled through that election,” Wike stated.

“The fuel crisis, the naira issue was terrible.

No party would implement such a policy close to elections unless there was an agenda.”

Wike emphasized that Tinubu’s victory was a result of divine favour and strategic political understanding.

“That’s how you know God is on someone’s side and that they understand the game.

You must give it to them,” he said.

He further reaffirmed his stance that the presidency should remain in the South until 2031, before rotating to the North.

“I said it in 2023 and I repeat it: until 2031, it should remain in the South,” Wike declared.

On party politics, the former Rivers State governor issued a stern warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), threatening to withdraw his support during the upcoming FCT council elections if internal disputes are not resolved.

“If PDP does not put its house in order, I won’t support them.

The ongoing crisis will consume the party unless the right things are done,” he warned.

Wike also highlighted his influence in Bayelsa’s last governorship race, noting that while he didn’t recommend anyone, he played a “fundamental role” in the outcome.
